Do judges have too much power?

6:30pm, Tuesday 23 June 2015, Judges' Room, Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey, London EC4M 7EH

Part of the Justice, Money and Power series at the City of London Festival 2015

Calls for an ‘independent judge-led inquiry’ have seemingly become a daily feature of political life whilst Conservative plans for a British Bill of Rights seek to reclaim British sovereignty from European courts. Have judges become the last bastion of trust in a cynical age, or an anti-democratic force in politics? Are politicians outsourcing their authority or are activist judges and lawyers over-stepping their boundaries? Does the rule of law have its limits, even in a free society?
